Expo 2020 Boulevard Art Proposal
Our proposal for the Expo 2020 Boulevard Roundabout Pavilion is a structure designed to welcome visitors to the event, printed in concrete and designed to run on solar power.
Drawing inspiration from the Expo 2020 logo and the palms of the UAE, we designed an installation that visitors can walk through.
A Landmark For The Roundabouts
Designed for the roundabouts along the site’s boulevard, each 8-meter-high structure reveals a walk-through forest of 3D printed concrete elements that resemble palm trees and are fitted with branching LED lights.
Each would be seen from the cars circling its roundabout, or explored on foot between the 3D printed ‘Palms’ toward an open space.
Designed For 3D Printing
The design follows the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum to make Dubai a global hub for 3D printing. We have designed a structure specifically for 3D printing in concrete.
Robotic 3D printing in concrete can reduce the formwork that casting needs, which can save material and keep the site cleaner, and it allows more complex forms.
We saw Expo 2020 as a platform to show this way of building to the world.
Day And Night
The elements are designed to generate energy during the day through transparent, bespoke solar panels on their tops. Activeskeen™ aesthetic photovoltaics are specified for this purpose.
At night, the concrete elements light up in programmed sequences.
Hidden LED lights in the footings add a glow at ground level.
Designed To Last
The pavilion is meant to last in the desert climate with very little maintenance and to power itself from the sun.
The solar panels face every direction around the center of each roundabout, to catch the sun throughout the day, and are tilted to shed sand from sandstorms.
The 3D printed shell components are specified in UHPC (Ultra High Performance Concrete) to resist the shear forces acting on them.
The pavilion was designed to outlast the fair.
مقترح الأعمال الفنية لبوليفارد إكسبو ٢٠٢٠
مقترحنا لجناح دوّار بوليفارد إكسبو ٢٠٢٠ هيكل يرحّب بزوّار الحدث، يُطبع بالخرسانة ومصمَّم ليعمل بالطاقة الشمسية. واستلهاماً من شعار إكسبو ٢٠٢٠ ومن نخيل الإمارات العربية المتحدة، صمّمنا عملاً تركيبياً يمكن للزوّار عبوره سيراً.
معلم للدوّارات
صُمّم كل هيكل ليُقام عند دوّارات بوليفارد الموقع، ويرتفع ٨ أمتار كاشفاً غابة يمكن عبورها سيراً، من عناصر خرسانية تشبه النخيل، مطبوعة ثلاثية الأبعاد ومزوّدة بفروع ضوئية من LED. يمكن مشاهدة كل هيكل من السيارات التي تدور حول دوّاره، أو التجوّل بين عناصره المطبوعة وصولاً إلى باحة مفتوحة.
مصمَّم للطباعة ثلاثية الأبعاد
استناداً إلى رؤية صاحب السمو الشيخ محمد بن راشد آل مكتوم، التي تهدف إلى أن تصبح دبي مركزاً عالمياً للطباعة ثلاثية الأبعاد، صمّمنا هيكلاً مخصّصاً للطباعة ثلاثية الأبعاد بالخرسانة.
يمكن للطباعة الروبوتية ثلاثية الأبعاد بالخرسانة أن تقلّل القوالب التي يحتاجها الصبّ، فتوفّر المادة وتُبقي الموقع أنظف، كما تتيح أشكالاً أكثر تعقيداً.

ليلاً ونهاراً
صُمّمت العناصر لتولّد الطاقة نهاراً عبر ألواح شمسية شفافة مصمّمة خصيصاً لقممها، واختيرت لذلك ألواح Activeskeen™ الكهروضوئية ذات الطابع الجمالي. وفي الليل، تضيء العناصر الخرسانية بتسلسلات مبرمجة. وتُزوَّد قواعد العناصر الخرسانية بإضاءة LED مخفية تضيف توهّجاً عند مستوى الأرض.
مصمَّم ليدوم
صُمّم الجناح ليدوم في المناخ الصحراوي بأقل قدر من الصيانة. وهو مصمَّم ليستمدّ طاقته من الشمس.
تُركَّب الألواح الشمسية على امتداد ٣٦٠ درجة في وسط الدوّارات لالتقاط الشمس طوال اليوم، وتُمال بزاوية تتخلّص بها من رمال العواصف. وتُصنع مكوّنات القشرة المطبوعة من الخرسانة فائقة الأداء (UHPC) لتقاوم قوى القص المؤثرة فيها.
صُمّم الجناح ليبقى بعد انتهاء المعرض.
