Concept
Repeat Wellness Club is conceived as a body-centred interior for movement and recovery, set within a protected residential building dating to 1895 in Barcelona’s Eixample district. Planning regulations required the historic façade to remain untouched, concentrating all architectural intervention within the existing envelope. The project transforms a former ground-floor commercial unit—shaped by successive tenants, residual structures, and irregular geometry—into a coherent interior sequence while preserving thebuilding’s depth and traces.
Rather than rely on a singular gesture, the intervention is organised as a system. Consistent radii, curved modular elements, and repeated geometries establish a shared logic across enclosure, structure, and technical integration. This approach absorbs the interior’s accumulated layers and uneven conditions, allowing continuity to emerge through alignment and repetition.
Spatial Strateg
The plan is organised around a progression from activity to recovery. At street level, reception sits between the primary Pilates studio and a food and beverage pop-up operated by Nudes, forming a social pause at the centre of the sequence. The main studio anchors the most active zone, while quieter programs are positioned deeper within the footprint to create a gradual transition from intensity to rest.
Sauna and cold plunge facilities are placed adjacent to the locker rooms and away from primary circulation, creating a contained environment for recovery. On the mezzanine level, infrared therapy and massage treatment rooms are arranged alongside a second Pilates studio, extending the sequence upward while maintaining a clear relationship between levels.
To accommodate the upper program, the existing mezzanine was structurally reinforced and reconfigured. The volume was enclosed to provide acoustic separation, while new openings were inserted between structural columns to bring daylight into the deep interior. These voids allow light to reach the ground-floor training spaces while preserving visual continuity. Mechanical distribution is integrated within the projecting mezzanine volume and calibrated to supply both levels, consolidating services without visual clutter.
Materiality & Atmosphere
Across the interior, afluid architectural language takes shape. Organic forms and monochromatic hues reference the curves and proportions of the human body. Curved corners are applied consistently across thresholds, walls, and built-in elements to guide circulation, soften transitions, and frame the exercise spaces. The result is an environment that supports ease of movement and accessibility without signage.
Material choices reinforce this sensibility through tactility and restraint. Natural clay walls introduce depth and a spectrum of skin-toned hues that shift across the interior, producing warmth with minimal ornament.Continuous microcementfloors provide a smooth, resilient base, allowing curvature, light, and movement to remain visually dominant. A secondary architectural skin wraps ceilings and columns throughout the space, integrating lighting and building services into a continuous curved surface. This layered treatment softens the existing structural grid and stabilizes the interior atmosphere through repetition and calibrated detail.
Lighting is conceived as an architectural tool. Soft ambient washes establish an even baseline, while focused lighting highlights key spatial moments and programmatic anchors. Together, materials and light create a calm, durable environment designed for daily use and longer periods of occupation.
Bespoke Elements
The interior is composed through custom-designed elements conceived as part of a unified architectural system. Joinery, thresholds, seating, and detailing follow the project’s consistent radii and rounded-square geometries, reinforcing continuity across the plan. Circulation between levels is articulated by a custom staircase fabricated to balance strict code requirements with spatial efficiency. Treads reduce incrementally in depth to maintain required clearance below, and each step is formed from a single folded steel plate to produce a continuous, softened geometry. A bespoke railing extends the project’s modular language into circulation.
Identity & Craft
Historic construction traditions are acknowledged through the retention of the existing Catalan vault geometry. Rendered in clay, the vaults remain legible as defining architectural elements. Bespoke linear lighting follows their rhythm, providing even illumination across the arches while preserving their presence throughout the day.
A modular motif composed of rounded-square geometries operates as a unifying system across multiple scales. Deployed from the handcrafted ceramic feature wall developed in collaboration with Ceràmica Cumella to the staircase balustrade, folded steel steps, bespoke furniture, and service-integration skins, the motif enables variation within a coherent framework. Differences in proportion and tone allow the system to remain consistent while accommodating programmatic needs, embedding inclusivity through form, scale, and material rather than representation.
Experience & Use
Repeat Wellness Club is designed to host both intensity and pause. The interior supports a clear transition from movement to recovery, with social moments held at the centre of the plan and quieter functions positioned deeper within the envelope. Although the exterior remains fully preserved, the interior identity is legible from the street: warm tones and curved forms radiate through the storefront windows, creating a contemporary presence without altering the protected façade.
The result is an architectural rehabilitation that transforms a constrained historic interior into a spatiallyfluid environment—defined by continuity, warmth, and a calibrated relationship between body, space, and material.
